Chapter 13
What was Jesus’ method of evangelism and how do we take part in it today?
We are co-laborers together with Christ in the ministry of the harvest – the gathering of souls for the kingdom of God. But many of us fail to share our faith for many reasons.
Some have tried in the past and felt fruitless and unproductive. Feeling discouraged, many have lost heart.
Another reason is we have watched the one-man show for so long in traditional churches that we have all learned to sit down, be quiet, and listen. There are many good, useful laborers who cannot be put to work because they don’t think they have the ability to do so.
But taking part in the God’s harvest is a nonnegotiable in the things of God. We are commanded to be fruitful and multiply, making disciples. The harvest is ripe, and we must lift up our eyes to see it. We don’t have to be eloquent or elaborate. All we have to have is the testimony of Christ inside of us and boldly say, “Let me tell you what the Lord has done in my life.”
Relational evangelism is the way Jesus taught His disciples to reach other people. It was the DNA of the first century church and the most effective way to evangelize for Jesus Christ.
We need to begin to lay our lives down to see our friends come to Christ. This is the fruit God commands, but we are so inward looking we are slowing the whole plan of God.
Can you spend some time with a lost friend? Could you eat with them? Pray for them? Bear with that sinning person, bring them the gospel of peace, and start pastoring their soul.
Every person, if you’ve been born again, can pull this off. We all have the power to minister to others.
Jesus was moved with compassion when he saw the people were as sheep with no shepherd. We are surrounded by a multitude who are the same – scattered, wearied, and fainting.
Are we moved with compassion like Jesus? Are we willing to go out there and heal the sick and hurting sheep? We need a multitude of laborers who are willing follow this teaching.
