Scraping Away The Plaque , By Darla Verrett

Scraping Away The Plaque

My friend’s mother was found last week with Carotid Artery Disease and had to have surgery.
Carotid Artery Disease occurs when fatty, waxy deposits called plaque clog your carotid arteries. The buildup of plaque in these arteries blocks the blood supply to your brain. Because carotid artery disease develops slowly it often goes unnoticed.
After her surgery to correct the problem she spoke about how much better she felt.
Surgery to correct this will restore proper blood flow to the brain. She spoke afterward about how much clearer her thinking was.  Even your speech can be clearer, like a fog has been lifted.
I started thinking about what she said and related it to how the weight of sin can slow you down and cause to have unclear thinking.  It robs us of our ability to understand spiritual truth.  It can start slowly with maybe just a thought, but if it’s left alone and allowed to take root, it can grow and become a stumbling block in your walk with the Lord. Sin or “plaque” as I am calling it, will block your relationship with God.
Galatians 5 talks about how our sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. If we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives, we will not be doing what our sinful nature craves.
Galatians 5:19-21 talks about what the sinful nature desires:
“When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outburst of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.”
When God gets a hold of our heart and reveals to us something that is not of Him, He has to scrap the “plaque” out of our heart. He has to do surgery in our heart.  As He scrapes the “plaque” away from our heart, the result will be freedom, the freedom to worship Him with all our heart. We will have clearer thinking, like life has been breathed into us once again. God has called us to walk in the Spirit, freedom to worship our Almighty God.
Galatians 5:13 says: “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.”
It is so important to be vigilante in our prayer time and our fellowship with other believers. If we are left with our own thoughts, we may end up justifying any unclean thought that may try to enter our heart.
Psalm 51:10 says: “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
If you find yourself in a place today, where you don’t have the peace of God that passes all understanding, I urge you today to allow our Holy God to clean any “plaque” out of your heart and be renewed today!!
