Charge!!! By Danny Allen

Posted: April , 2013

I wanted to write down some things I've been pondering in my soul. These thoughts are a result of trying to pray and encourage a particular person that I have been sharing the Gospel with. So often as I share the Good News of the Gospel with a person, I see him or her receive with joy the idea of being made free from the slavery of SIN.  Freedom from the guilt, shame, consequences and control of our SIN is the heart of the Gospel message.  I also am discouraged by the lack of confidence in the Gospel to save and deliver souls from death.

Jesus taught a parable called the Parable of the Sower and in that parable, He describes people who receive the word of God but only some, those who receive, understand and obey the word, produce the fruit of righteousness (right living according to God).  The other groups of people receive the word only for a time and at some point fall away.  (Matthew 13:1-23 for the Parable).  It should be noted that the word that described here in this Parable is the Gospel!  We are either believing the Gospel to the saving of the soul or falling away from the Gospel which will bring destruction of the soul.  To fall away one has to have first come to or have been moving toward something or someone.  The Gospel is the message that commands us to move toward a Savior and a Lord who is Jesus Christ.  I will not take the time to write all of the scriptures that exclusively state and point to Jesus as the only Savior and the only means by which sinful mankind can be reconciled to a Holy God.  I would like to however continue the thought of falling away versus believing in the following versus:

Hebrews 10:35-39 (KJV) "Therefore do not cast away your confidence which has great reward.  For you have need of endurance so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.  For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and not tarry.  Now the just shall live by faith But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.  But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul".

Looking carefully at these verses we see in the first sentence the word "cast away".  The word cast away here is used as a verb and it means to throw something away.  The noun form of the word cast away is a person who is shipwrecked or a rejected or discarded person or thing.

1 Timothy 1:19 (NLT) "Cling to your faith in Christ and keep your conscience clear.  For some have deliberately violated their conscience; as a result, there faith has been shipwrecked".

I wanted to show another verse that would give a clear picture of what I'm trying to say.  Cling to your faith in Christ.  Christ and the Gospel message is the Ship that is carrying us to safety or salvation.  Faith believes, stays, holds onto, trusts and ultimately obeys Jesus and His message of the Gospel.  As we do this daily our conscience or our mind is cleared and stays clear of guilt.  We can deliberately, by the act of our will, turn from and stop clinging to Christ and the Gospel, and in turn our faith is shipwrecked and or cast away, which will ultimately cause us to be a cast away.  A person who is clinging to Christ and has a clear conscience is confident that Jesus will come through and perform what He has promised.  Jesus has promised to save our souls from death and hell.  The reward of our confidence is not only a future salvation from hell but a present reality of salvation from the domination of Sin and the SIN NATURE in our lives (I will write more on the Sin Nature at another time).   I want to continue going through all of the verses in Hebrews 10:35-39 for times sake, so let’s look at the last verse to drive home the point.

The word draw back is mentioned twice in the above scriptures.  Drawing back means to retreat.   Those who draw back, God is not pleased with.  According to verse 39 those who retreat are retreating to perdition or destruction.  Two groups of people are mentioned above, those who draw back or retreat and those who believe or charge forward.  The word retreat is often best understood when describing the events that take place in a war.  In a war retreat is the first steps toward defeat.  For someone to be defeated they first have to retreat.  I understand that some who retreat only retreat for a regrouping to charge once again.  However the ones who retreat to never charge again are caught, held captive, and become victims and casualties of war.  We live in a culture that is full of victims.  Defeated by their sins and held captive by the Devil to do his will.  We are commanded to follow and to do the will of God.  Only those who are not retreating can do God's will.  The will of God is to save your soul from destruction.  The end of 2 Pet 3:9 states that "God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance".   He has made a means by which our souls can be saved.  The means is, believing in and obeying Jesus' death burial and resurrection.  We are living in a time where it appears that the war is lost, that Jesus and His message have been defeated.  We see many who once believed, even our dearest friends and family, who have retreated in the battle.  I say to those who have retreated and have quit, get up and charge again!  I say to those who have forsaken the assembly of the saints to assemble again with the defeated of this world, to turn and get back on the winning team.  I say to those whose love has grown cold and their hearts hardened through the deceitfulness of sin, to repent and turn to and believe the Gospel again.  You are defeated only if you quit charging.  I say to those weary in the battle that are loosing strength, that the Lord will come and save us, His grace is enough!  Keep charging because the battle has already been won!  Jesus Christ is The Victor and through His death, burial and resurrection, He has secured the victory.  We who keep charging are more than Conquerors.  Those who keep charging are overcoming and will overcome. "Fight the good fight of Faith and lay hold of Eternal life".  Eternal life has been secured by Jesus Christ for His Faithful servants.  We must fight by faith to secure it for ourselves. "Thanks be to God who always leads us to TRIUMPH in Christ".  'Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God” What are you listening to?  The devil’s shouts of defeat?  He shouts every time our culture and world sinks deeper into depravity. He shouts every time you fail and are overcome by a continual sin or struggle in your life.  We must stop listening to the Devil and start listening to our God and His word.   We must stop listening to the Politician in the government and in the Church!!  Its time to hear God in the closet and to proclaim what we hear from the roof tops.  The faithful charge forward with what they hear.  I say charge church!!  I say put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand in the day of battle.  Our armor is Jesus and His word.  Our armor is for protection but remember that part of the armor is the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.  The sword is for charging.  Our feet are covered with the Gospel of peace.  We are not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God for salvation.  Our obedience to the Gospel is to live it and to proclaim it until Jesus comes back.. Some will receive and believe and some won’t.  Some will start believing and some will quit.  However we must continue to charge.  Go forward until we reach eternal life!!!!!!!  We need each other.  Look around at the wounded and defeated in the church.  Go bandage their wounds and grab their hands and charge!!!
