My Kingdom is not of this World

My Kingdom is not of this World
John 18:36, “36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”
Jesus made this powerful statement as He humbly stood before Pilate, the Roman Governor over Jerusalem. Jesus was wrongfully accused by a corrupt religious system, then tried and crucified by a cruel secular government, and this was all He had to say in His defense.
So why is it that so many who claim to be Christian are among the loudest voices of inflammatory language about bearing arms? Am I missing something? Is America the kingdom of Christ? Or is any other kingdom of this world His kingdom? Remember, we are Christians who happen to be American, not vice-versa. We really need to step out of the media cycles and take a sober look at what church folks are saying and examine the mindset of why they are saying such things.
Folks I am an avid hunter and gun owner. If my home were invaded by a thief I would do my best to not allow my house to be broken into nor let my wife be harmed. But I am hearing so many who are building this case for our “rights” to bear arms against the government. What are we thinking?
Consider this as Jesus was being arrested in Matthew 26:51-52, “And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. 52 But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.”
Jesus’ warning here is very clear, if you live by the sword you will die by the sword! Tell me this, where in the Bible is there any record that His apostles raised the sword against civil authority after this rebuke? The church never did this until after the wicked reforms of Constantine and Augustine beginning in 317 A.D..
Now consider what the Apostle Paul told the Romans in Chapter 13:1-7, “ Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”
When the Apostle Paul wrote this, Nero was the Emperor of Rome. Nero was reported to have impaled two hundred Christians on spears each night and then set them on fire to light his courtyard. Now folks THAT is tyranny!!!
Another verse to ponder is this, Luke 9:52-56, “And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. 53 But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. 54 And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” 55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. 56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.”And they went to another village.”
When His disciples wanted immediate vengeance to come down on those who did not receive Jesus He warned them that they had the wrong spirit. I believe that many of the arguments that I am hearing these days from church folks do not have the right spirit in them and they should take Jesus’ advice and check what spirit they are of.
Please check the Scriptures and your spirit before getting caught up in the latest media hype and news cycles. Rather, take up the Sword of the Spirit, which is THE WORD OF GOD and go on the offensive against the devil with the mighty weapons of the Christian warfare. Let’s fight like the servants of God not of this world!
