Antonin Scalia: Tipping the Scales of Justice

Antonin Scalia

Tipping the Scales of Justice

During my prayer time this morning, the Lord brought the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to my thoughts. As I pondered the significance of his death during this political season, I couldn’t help but think that God has brought us to a prophetic crossroads. Bear with me as I lay out the spiritual and political issues that I see unfolding.

Laodicea: The Spiritual Climate of America

In the Book of Revelation, Jesus Christ appeared to the Apostle John and instructed him to write seven letters to the seven churches in Asia. Without going into too much detail, I believe that those seven churches represent seven church ages, with each church representing a specific time frame in history. I have laid this out in great detail in my book “The Doctrines of Christ,” it is not my intention to repeat that teaching here. The reason I mention that is to qualify what I have to say concerning the seventh letter to the seventh church in Asia, Laodicea. I believe that the church of Laodicea represents the seventh and final church age in history. I further believe and have stated many times that I believe that we officially entered the Laodicean Church age January 1, 2001.

Revelation 3:14-22, 14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

The first point I would like to make is concerning the meaning of the name, “Laodicea” means the rule or will of the people, or justice of the people. This is an interesting concept in world history. We here in America live in a constitutional republic, with democratic elections to represent the will of the people. Our politics are driven by polling the electorate to discover just what the majority of the people want at any given period of time. We are in a unique period, the final church age, where God Himself is allowing us to bring our own judgment upon ourselves.

The second point is concerning the spiritual climate during that final church age, not hot, not cold, but lukewarm. Plenty of folks believe in God, just not too much. We believe in heaven, but not too much, we believe in hell but not too much. We believe in sin, but really like our sins and want to keep them. God’s judgement toward this spiritual climate is that He would spue (vomit) them out of His mouth!!! This is not a new thing, God told ancient Israel that if they began to commit the same abominations that the inhabitants of the land were committing that the land would spue/vomit them out, read it in full in Leviticus 18. So what were those abominations? Idolatry, fornication, adultery, incest, homosexuality, beastiality, etc…

Presiding over Laodicea: The Political Climate of America

Since 2001 America’s moral decline is spiraling out of control. In the year 2000 we elected George W. Bush as President of the United States. On September 11, 2001, America was attacked by Islamic radicals who flew jets into the World Trade Center in New York. We have been at war with them since then. During Bush’s administration he put to Justices on the Supreme Court, John Roberts, a moderate, who is now the Chief Justice, and Samuel Alito, a conservative.

In 2008 the nation was mesmerized by the oratory skills of a young African American who seemingly came out of nowhere to become President of the United States. He has already appointed two ultra-liberals to the Supreme Court and is trying his best as I’m writing this to appoint a third before he leaves office. During President Obama’s administration he has presided over the un-defining of marriage to allow same sex marriage, who knows what this will eventually lead to. He has unwaveringly supported abortion on demand, even when Planned Parenthood was caught selling body parts from dead babies, He actually said, “god bless Planned Parenthood.”  In 2012 America reelected him as President and he continues to run this country in a lawless fashion.

Now at the present time we are in a vital Presidential election cycle. The two major political parties have some of the most interesting candidates that I have ever seen. The Democrats have Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Hillary has been, and is currently in, too many scandals to enumerate in this writing, and is very much in contention to win the election. Bernie Sanders is an avowed socialist whose beliefs are so conflicting to the American Constitution that it should be illegal for him to preside over it. It is almost impossible to believe that a communist has a huge following and a viable chance to become POTUS!

On the Republican side, the field was extremely large, it began with seventeen candidates and is currently down to five. The frontrunner, Donald Trump, is a controversial figure to say the least. His history is that of a liberal Democrat, he has been pro-abortion, for same sex marriage, he is for Planned Parenthood, he mocks the afflicted, he’s arrogant, temper-mental, and vulgar. Yet, he is in position to represent the Republican Party in the election. His two major opponents, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, are running far behind him in all polls, their combined votes would barely have them in contention. Rubio, the establishment candidate, a Roman Catholic who seems to be pro-life, and a decent moral man. Ted Cruz, an Evangelical, a proven conservative with a record of standing for good morals, also a decent man, yet Trump dominates. With the same mesmerizing skills of his predecessor Obama, he captivates crowds like a flamboyant televangelist, promising them prosperity if he’s elected, and the crowds roar in approval. Even the churches are throwing their support behind this man, reassured because Trump continually says, “believe me” “trust me” and they do.

The Death of Antonin Scalia

With all this going on, Antonin Scalia, the most conservative voice on the Supreme Court suddenly dies. The Supreme Court is made up of nine Justices. At present the court has four liberals, two moderates, and two conservatives. We cannot overstate the impact that Scalia’s death has on this court. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has emphatically stated that he will not allow President Obama to appoint Scalia’s replacement. Whether he will or won’t is yet to be seen, but we can hope. So…

The reason that I’m writing this is to give anyone who will listen to me a little food for thought, and a few points of action. Our next POTUS will appoint the Justice who will either balance the court or tip the scales of justice in the direction of injustice. Should another moderate or worse a liberal replace Scalia, we will be stuck with him or her and a liberal court for 20-30 years. I don’t believe we will escape the tremendous judgments that we will bring upon our own heads if we allow or support a liberal candidate to become POTUS. Remember, it’s the rule or will of the people, God is going to let us judge ourselves through our own votes. Will you vote for righteousness or unrighteousness? This election has the most spiritual implications and impacts of any that I have ever seen. I watched the birth of the social conservative movement, and now I wonder if Scalia’s death will become the death of social conservatives? Remember, in this election, your vote is your judgment for or against America.

In conclusion I will give a couple of points of Action. First, check your own heart, if you are lukewarm you are in danger of being vomited out of God’s mouth, and you are endangering us to be vomited out of this land. Turn to God with all of your heart, before you listen to another political issue. Then pray with all of your heart that our nation will turn back to God and that God will hold back His judgments on America. Second, do your research and vote for a moral, pro-life, candidate. Four of the five seem to fit this description, Donald Trump does not. Vote in a way that reflects Biblical values over political and economics.

I believe that Antonin Scalia’s death is very prophetic. And now the scales of justice are place in the courts of our own hearts. Will we vote for righteousness and turn our nation back to God? Or will we vote for unrighteousness and hear God say, “Mene, Mene, Tekel, Uupharsin?”

Jesus is standing at the door of our Laodicean hearts, will you let Him in or keep Him out?
