Not One Stone Left Upon Another, By Teryl Hebert

Not One Stone Left Upon Another

Recently I’ve been going to our house churches sharing a revelation that God gave me concerning the end times. It was prompted by a friend of mine who was in some fiery exchanges with people who believe in “Replacement Theology”. This teaching says that the Church replaces Israel and the promises and covenants are no longer for Israel but for the Church. I understand how someone could come to believe that but I do not agree with it. The Law is our schoolmaster that leads us to Christ not to replace Israel but to learn from their examples. Let me share with you what the Lord showed me when I began to look into this.

The Destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D.

Matthew 24:1-3, And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

When the disciples pointed out the beauty of the temple of God in Jerusalem, Jesus used this to segue into a prophetic word concerning the eventual destruction of the temple in 70 A.D., when He declared that not one stone would be left upon another. This prompted three questions from the disciples, when shall these things be, what shall be the sign of thy coming, and the sign of the end of the world? It is not my intention to go into a full eschatology here but I need to share this to set up the specific things that God has been showing me.

The Nail in the Coffin of The Old Testament

Without a doubt, the activity surrounding The Temple was the centerpiece for all of the Old Testament life. The early church was so addicted to the Temple that they continued to meet at Solomon’s Porch until the dispersion after Stephen’s martyrdom in Acts 8:1. In 70 A.D. the Temple was overrun by the Roman armies led by Titus, striking a blow to the very heart of Old Testament living.

To put this in perspective and make the first point of what the Lord is showing me I will say it this way, the close of the Old Testament was that not one stone was left upon another of the Temple of God.

This also leads to my next observation. In the New Testament, WE ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD. And the terrible thing that we are witnessing as we near the close of the New Testament is that the Church, like Israel, will not have one stone left upon another!

Scattering the Holy People

One of the most pertinent books of prophecy concerning the end times is the Book of Daniel. In the last chapter of his book there is a verse that has intrigued me for many years.

Daniel 12:1-8, And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river. And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”

These words that obviously point to the resurrection of the dead and the events leading up to this powerful event are “sealed until the time of the end.” I believe that we are approaching “the end” of many things in particular the time of the church age.

But what I want you to point out in particular in this passage is a portion of verse seven, “and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.”

It seems that in the end times God will use anti-christ to separate His people. Much like the disciples were scattered at the time of the crucifixion of Christ, so the New Testament church will suffer a two fold scattering in the last days. One of the “scatterings” will be a great falling away, and the other “scattering” will be a great persecution of the “Holy People.”

The Fulness of the Gentiles

Romans 11:25-29, 25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. 28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes. 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”

As I said at the first, it was my studies concerning replacement theology that prompted what I’m presently writing. Romans 9-11 are absolutely fascinating concerning Israel and their role in the end of days. But what I want you to see is the little phrase found in verse 25, “the fullness of the Gentiles.”

We are living in the Church Age where the Kingdom of God (The Holy Spirit) has come to live in the hearts of every true believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. The beauty of this Age and the revelation of the mystery is that now the Gentiles (non-Jews) have access to God Almighty through His Son Jesus Christ. We should rejoice to understand that we who were not a people have been now made to be a people and granted repentance unto life. Once understood, this should guard us from being wise in our own conceits.

The Apostle Paul spoke of a blindness that is on Israel that would remain until the “fullness of the Gentiles.” When Christ came to the earth He came only for the Jews. They who were awaiting the coming of Christ the Messiah were “blinded” and could not see that Jesus of Nazareth was Christ, the Son of God that all of the Law and Prophets did declare would come. He came unto His own and His own received Him not (John 1:11). The very fact that they rejected the True Messiah means that they are still waiting for a Messiah, making them vulnerable to receive an anti-christ.

When the Jews rejected Jesus as Christ it opened the door for Gentiles to receive Him, Praise Him!!! We Gentiles were given entrance to the things that were once forbidden to us because of the religious blindness on the Jews.

Provoke to Jealousy

Romans 11:7-15,What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: 10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway. 11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? 13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: 14 If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. 15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?”

This is such a powerful thing to understand. The fall of the Jews opened the door for the salvation of us Gentiles! Now we have the duty to provoke Israel to jealousy, which I believe the church is failing miserably at doing. What does the church have in this hour that would make Israel jealous?

Let’s examine the areas that should make the Jews envy what the church has.

Romans 9:1-5,  I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.”

Israel had the exclusive rights to:

1. The Adoption.

2. The Glory (God’s Presence).

3. The Covenants (At least 9 of them).

4. The Law.

5. The Service of God (the Temple activities including priest and prophet).

6. The Promises.

I could right a volume on each of these six rights and privileges that belonged to Israel and now have been given to the Church to provoke the original possessors of these gifts to jealousy.

The modern church has been given the adoption of sons but the modern church has substituted the adoption process for infant sprinkling and the sinner’s prayer, leaving us with an unconverted church that lives like the world instead of the sons and daughters of God.

The Church has been given the Glory of God through the person of the Holy Spirit. But we have rejected holiness and comingled with the world.

The Church has been given the New Covenant in the blood of Jesus Christ. But we have counted the blood of Jesus an unholy thing through a perverted teaching of false grace.

The Church has been given the Law of the Spirit, the Law of Liberty, the Law of Love, yet we live lawlessly.

The Church has been given the gifts of service to God but the general population of the Church refuses to serve relegating this to a few paid professionals and a few super committed members.

The Church has been given ALL OF THE PROMISES OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS!!! Yet the only ones we claim is carte blanch forgiveness, and a future escape from hell.

In all these things, the modern Church has failed miserably at provoking the Jews to jealousy!!!

Blindness

Let me remind you of what Paul said in Romans 11:25, “that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.”

I believe that the fullness of the Gentiles is upon us and it seems to be that the blindness that caused Israel to reject Christ Jesus as Messiah is now coming upon the Church. I believe this statement is totally defended by Paul’s writings in II Thessalonians.

II Thessalonians 2:1-17, Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The “Great Falling Away” of the end times will have many warning signals. I would first point out that to “fall away” from something means that you must have been there in order to fall away from it.

Two definite indicators of falling away will be the revealing of the “man of sin” and “the son of perdition.” I know that we can ascribe these attributes to the anti-christ himself but the spirit of antichrist working in the hearts of man will reveal sinning men and sons of perdition.

The church is in process of accepting sins that were absolutely unheard of until now. People live in every flavor of sexual sin and are welcomed into the churches as members in good standing without ever repenting of these sins. The “man of sin” is being revealed in the form of sinning men being accepted into the churches and ministry without repentance!

The son of perdition is a term that was only used concerning Judas Iscariot, the man who betrayed Jesus for money. Need I say more? The modern church is so money hungry that we are churning out more Judas clones than you can count. Judas was given to Jesus by God, he was counted among the twelve apostles, he did miracles, and walked with Jesus every day for three and a half years but he became lost so that the Scriptures could be fulfilled. The same is true for the apostate church that is falling from grace in this hour. They too are fulfilling Scripture that there would be a revealing of the son of perdition in the last days.

Notice the plan of the spirit of antichrist and the literal antichrist found in II Thessalonians 2:4, “who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

Remember, in the New Testament, we are the Temple of God. The spirit of antichrist wants to sit in the heart of God’s people and exalt man above God until man is worshipped instead of God. I believe this totally describes the modern religion called humanism. It also has a part in the blindness that comes in the falling away described in Romans 1, where they worship and serve the creature more than the Creator. It surely fulfills the word of prophecy given by the Apostle Paul in II Timothy 3:1-5, where he describes a future generation that loved self more that they loved God, even turning this narcissism into a religion.

Strong Delusion

The Apostle Paul warns us that there is only one thing restraining this antichrist until it is taken out of the way. So what restrains the lawless one? I believe with all of my heart and every thing I know about Scripture, that the only thing restraining the antichrist is the Holy Spirit filled Church! And I also believe that this kind of Church is being taken out of the way even while I’m writing this paper.

Surely the power of the Holy People is being scattered. Allow me to conclude this thought about blindness with Paul’s clear prophecy concerning antichrist.

II Thessalonians 2: 9-12, “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

Notice that antichrist will appeal to those who would rather live in unrighteousness than to have salvation. God judges this widespread rejection of the true gospel with “strong delusion.” Delusional people truly think they see something that is really not there. Just as a delusional person could see a person and think it is a giant bunny rabbit, a delusional religious person could read the Bible and turn sin into salvation!!! This is happening right now!!!

Let me say it clearly, I believe that the blindness that was on Israel is now coming upon the Church. Just as Israel rejected Christ so will the Church!

Living Stones

I Peter 2:3-10, “…if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”  and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.”  They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”

We are the living stones of the New Testament Temple. We are being fashioned together for a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said where two or three gather together, He is in the midst of them. But this tiny agreement is almost impossible to achieve in our current spiritual climate. The Church is divided into over 40,000 denominations and is splitting every day. Truly the power of the Holy People is being scattered. Everything from hell attacks any form of relational Christianity, and this will get much worse. Are we witnessing the fullness of the Gentiles? I believe that we are.

What About Israel?

Israel is in the crosshairs of Muslims like never before. Even now Hamas is attacking Israel daily. The entire Middle-East is in turmoil and at the heart of the hatred is a unified disdain for God and His people both Old and New Testament. Remember, Israel rejected Jesus and do not believe that He is the Christ so they are still looking for a modern Messiah that will deliver their nation. This makes them susceptible to receive a false christ.

Let’s revisit one of our major texts.

How is it that “all Israel shall be saved”? I believe that Israel will receive the antichrist until the middle of a seven year agreement. At which time he will begin a wholesale slaughter of the Jewish people. At that time there will be a revival among the Jews as they turn to the True Christ, Jesus the Son of God. They will be persecuted unmercifully by their enemies but the will be saved in unprecedented numbers. Truly The Deliverer will come to Zion!!!

As for now, the Jews are the enemies of the gospel. I do not condone the actions of the Jews who own Hollywood, the media, and the banking industry. For the most part the Jews stand for everything that Christians oppose. But the day will come when all of that will change and God will save His people. There is so much more that I could say but I will leave you with just a couple of thoughts that have impressed me so much.

Think About It…

Romans 11:11-13, 11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. 12 Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! 13 For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, 14 if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them. 15 For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?”

If the fall of Israel gave us salvation, what would their salvation do for the world?

Imagine a world filled with the fullness of a Jewish Church with Jesus the Messiah over it!!!

If the casting away of Israel was the reconciling of the world what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? Will the salvation of Israel bring in the resurrection from the dead?

Are we witnessing the fullness of the Gentiles that will usher in the fullness of Israel?

Please pray for a revival in the churches and for the peace of Jerusalem.

Grace and Peace Be Multiplied to You,
