Agreement is a key aspect to fellowship and as Amos 3:3 (NKJV) says, how can two walk together, unless they are in agreement? People agree around things that they hold common like common traits, common goals and common practices. The fact that people agree over commonalities is a social principle and there is no need to be born again to participate. The question is over what do you find agreement or what are your terms of agreement? The grace of God was apparent in the church at Corinth, because it seemed to have it going on in the way of gifts of the Holy Spirit. You would think that having no objection to the Holy Spirit would be a good place to agree and it is, but it was no guarantee against the carnal attitudes that soon developed. The only agreement found later was over the minister who had baptized one group and not another and what had been agreeable ministers became a disagreeable church. (more…)

Jesus Said I Will Build My Church (Mt. 16:18)

One of the most interesting subjects throughout history has been the subject of the church. How many times has the subject of church come up between you and another person? Maybe you have been asked to go to church by a family member, friend or co-worker. The Greek word used for church in this statement is ekklesia, which means the called out assembly. We will get back to the word church and it’s meaning a little later in this paper, but first let’s look at what Jesus said He would do. I will build My church. The word build here is the Greek word “oikodomeo”, which means to build a house or erect a building from a foundation. Scripture has a lot to say about foundation. When building a structure such as a house or a building you must start with a solid foundation. For a structure to be strong and able to withstand the forces of nature such as wind, rain, earthquakes, etc., it must have a solid foundation. (more…)
